Close Rune Thing

On Wednesday 5th June our Year 9 Boys’ Cricket Team played against Avanti Fields. Traditionally this fixture is a tense and close contest and this year’s match did not disappoint!

Avanti opened the batting and posted a strong score of 61 off 12 overs, losing only two wickets in the process. With a total to chase, Soar Valley began their innings but got off to a slow start: after four overs we had lost a wicket and were some way off the required run rate for a win. To be honest, for a long time it looked as though an Avanti victory was a foregone conclusion.

However, despite a difficult start, the boys’ heads did not drop and the second half of our innings saw the run rate increase. By the final over of the match we only needed 6 runs to win. Naturally the players hearts were pounding with the potential for a victory in their sights!

The team showed amazing character and resilience throughout the match and won the game with just 2 balls to spare. An incredible effort boys. Well done.
